Frequently Asked Questions
Original Haute Sauce is best consumed before 8-10 weeks, if kept under the right conditions. Haunting Haute Sauce is best consumed before 8-10 weeks, if kept under the right conditions. Mellowing Haute Sauce is best consumed before 3-4 weeks, if kept under the right conditions. Puckering Haute Sauce is best consumed before 2 weeks, if kept under the right conditions.
The right conditions are very important in ensuring that your Haute Sauces stay fresh. Read the following section on sauce storage for more information on the optimal storage conditions for your Haute Sauce.
All Haute Sauces are made from fresh ingredients without any added preservatives, so they must be refrigerated at all times. We recommend keeping them at the very back of the refrigerator where it’s the coldest and not at the front of the fridge or in the fridge door.
In addition to this, please also ensure:
- The bottle is shut properly.
- Wipe the mouth of the bottle clean with a clean tissue after every use.
Yes, generally the sauces last beyond the best before date and are perfectly safe to consume as long as they have been stored correctly (see more information on this above). But since it is a fresh product and completely free of preservatives, always use your sense of smell and sight to gauge if the sauce is still safe to consume.
Once you’ve placed your order and your sauce is ready, we will notify you by email, where you can confirm the delivery date and time slot. Then just sit back and relax; your sauce will be delivered to your doorstep.

All Haute Sauces are made fresh on order. We never have any as ready stock, as we believe making them fresh is key in ensuring quality and taste. We firmly believe there's something memorable about eating something that was made specially for you.
That’s a difficult question to answer as it’s all relative.
Haunting is the spiciest of the lot. If you think Tabasco is spicy, then this is significantly spicier. But if you can bravely eat a Carolina reaper (a.k.a. the spiciest chilli in the world) and not chug a gallon of milk, this is probably going to be very mild for you. Puckering and Original are both a high-spice level but less spicy than Haunting. Mellowing can be eaten by most people and is a mild to medium spice. If you are unsure of which one is best for you, start with the milder option.
Honestly, the sky’s the limit. If you’re asking us, our favourite way to eat it is with eggs. Nothing like a sunny side up with a side of Haute Sauce and a runny yolk. We highly recommend you try this.
But you can pretty much add it to anything. All the sauces go with different types of cuisine, so feel free to unleash your creativity. Our customers have added Haute Sauce to tajine, chilli con carne, stews, hummus, marinades, salad dressings, dips, pasta sauce, fried rice, biryani, yoghurt - one even added it to their chocolate cake (who said chilli and chocolate can’t be friends?). You get the drift...

In order for hot sauces to last a long time, the pH level has to be about 4 or lower. We reduce the pH with the addition of lime and vinegar, both of which create an acidic environment and prevent the growth of bacteria. Salt and olive oil also act as excellent natural preservatives.
Having said that, please do note that Haute Sauce contains only natural preservatives and cannot be stored at room temperature like commercial hot sauces that contain chemical preservatives.
Sorry, we do not customise sauces.
Unfortunately, we can’t. Since we have a 100% preservative-free policy, we have to resort to natural ingredients that have preservative qualities. Salt and oil both act as natural preservatives and are very crucial ingredients to the sauce.
Original, Haunting and Mellowing contain no added sugar. For Puckering, we use jaggery, which is a natural, unrefined sugar.
In nature, variations do occur - some peppers tend to be redder, while some tend to be more orange. Since every jar is made from fresh peppers, we have no control over the final colour.
Chilli peppers are tricky little things. Even within the same type, all peppers have their own distinct personality - some are fruitier, some sharper, while some are smokier. It is almost impossible to figure out how spicy a pepper is going to be just by looking at it. The fun is in the unexpected.
Great question. If the sauce is too spicy for you, we definitely recommend using a lot less of it. Since our Haute Sauces are full of flavour, a little goes a very long way. You can tone down the spice by mixing the sauce in yogurt or labneh to make flavourful dips. We have a range of Haute Sauces that vary in spice levels.
